Laurence’s interest in cooking goes back many years. He was taught to cook lasagne by an Italian farmer’s wife in the hills near Urbino in 1972. He learnt the flavours and spices of Moroccan cooking from a lady called Rachma in Rabat in the 1980s. And his introduction to Chinese cooking came about when his Chinese teacher fell off his chair in an earthquake – but that’s another story.
In recent years, his cooking skills and his position as Consul General in Milan have come to the attention of the Italian media and resulted in a number of magazine articles – as well as an appearance as a TV chef on the RAI 2 programme Eat Parade.
